Spire will release its sixth issue on April 22 – Reuters


Spire: The Maine Journal of Conservation and Sustainability will publish its sixth issue in line this Earth Day, April 22.

Spire is a student-run interdisciplinary online journal based at the University of Maine. The publication seeks to unite communities in the North East by promoting impactful dialogue to effect profound environmental change.

The sixth issue features photographs of UMaine alumni and students, nature-themed poetry, stories of resilience, a discussion of capitalism’s role in climate change, and an examination of the impacts pipelines. Cover illustrations are by Rachael Murphy, whose woodcuts show personal interactions with the Maine landscape.

Spire’s editor, Rebecca Champagne, has a doctorate. candidate in ecology and environmental sciences who is graduating this semester. Dominic Piacentini, a Ph.D. candidate in anthropology and environmental policy, will be the next editor.

The submission deadline for the seventh issue of Spire and the cover art competition is February 1, 2023. Submissions to the journal are accepted on a rolling basis.
