PrintWeek (PW): What is the latest version of ArtPro+?
Ravi Vaitiyanathan (RV): The latest version of ArtPro+ is 22.03.
PW: What is the difference between this version and the previous edition?
VR: We have added some key features for this edition such as: stimulator for digital printing; create warp grids from dieline; the automated plate cutting line optimizes plate utilization or prefers to follow the shift pattern.
PW: One of the pieces of information we received from a premedia company is: “I am unable to create my own color swatch in ArtPro+. For example, I need a color swatch named Global Red MCD So how do I create my own color swatches?” Please highlight.
VR: You can create your own separation or color by following the steps: click on the “add separations” icon under the separation tab. Then name the separation “MCD global red” and press Enter; and finally add the color values in LAB/CMYK/RGB and press enter
PW: How do I create a Plate ID object?
VR: If you use ArtPro+ in combination with Esko’s imaging engine in the flexographic printing industry, you can use Plate ID objects to identify flexo plates. For example, to be reprinted after being archived, or to be reused in a similar work.
VR: It’s a kind of smart mark created using ArtPro+
Without dismantling the PDF, ArtPro+ provides direct access to the right transparency and object level through a unique navigation concept
PW: What types of files can be deployed in ArtPro+?
VR: ArtPro+ is a PDF-based editor. It can open the PDF file directly.
PW: One of the pieces of information we received from a packaging converter is: “Any arrangement to distort the image to a specific pattern. Our image shrinks 99.9% after printing…”
VR: Yes, we have flexographic distortion and distortion techniques based on shrink patterns for hoses.
PW: Is there a comparison option in ArtPro+ like the automation engine?
VR: ArtPro+ comes with an advanced compare option and can list the different separations. It can also auto-align based on content
PW: Does ArtPro offer a pre-flight option like Enfocus Pitstop?
VR: ArtPro+ comes with a pre-flight option and uses the same engine as Enfocus Pitstop.
PW: Can any graphic designer/practicing graphic designer use ArtPro+ without training or do they need training to start using the tool?
VR: Any designer can easily migrate to ArtPro+ with basic tool training. As this is packaging production software, there are many options available that are not seen in generic graphics editing software.
PW: Can you generate an auto-cut/free-cut file in ArtPro?
VR: Yes, we can create cutting file from step and repeat layout file.
PW: During processing, if some elements have been deleted by mistake, is there a method to cross-check the origin?
VR: We have a comparison function capable of highlighting even a 0.05% color change.
PW: How can we use 3D views in ArtPro+, some brands and their design teams want 3D views, is that possible?
VR: ArtPro+ supports the generation of 3D files when using CAD structure to convert 2D artwork to 3D.
PW: Is there a standard for PDF? What is the latest standard?
VR: PDF 2.0 is the latest version and ISO recommended the same. ArtPro Plus writes the file in the same format. GWG defines the basic PDF framework used in the industry and all RIP engines must be able to decode the structure specified by GWG.
PW: There are a lot of errors that end up on the shelves due to flaws in technical drawings, technical specifications, etc. How to minimize these blunders?
VR: Esko’s Web Center can eliminate the hassle of sharing information with stakeholders and tracking it in an organized way. Please contact us to find out more. Our email address is: [email protected]
PW: Can customers work online in real time – and from anywhere in the world to manipulate CAD and graphics files?
VR: Esko’s cloud-based solutions can make this possible.
PW: Buyers and packaging brands are looking for faster time to market. Is there a new normal for TAT (turnaround time) these days?
VR: Yes, customers want their product to reach the market as soon as possible to gain market capital. If you look at market trends, every brand introduces new variance in the product at least once every quarter. The converter segment must therefore be dynamic to absorb this new standard to be reproduced and delivered to the market.
PW: How can our industry further automate prepress operations? So that industry can work at high levels of efficiency with an automated motor solution?
RV: Esko’s automation engine can help you integrate your processes and automate your prepress activities accordingly. Please contact us to learn more about prepress automation
PW: Esko claims that ArtPro+ can save operators 70% time. How?
VR: ArtPro+ provides the right tool for designers to work faster and more efficiently. It is also integrated with quality tools that can help designers produce the right SKUs the first time. Some of the tools are preflight, colors, white underprint, action list for finishing embellishments, recolor, automated and object-based trapping.
PW: Has there been a prepress innovation that has emerged in the last 24 months? For example, virtual proofing or online approvals?
VR: We’ve seen clients turn to a virtual 3D mockup for artwork approval. The COVID pandemic has resulted in restricted travel, so clients prefer contactless 3D mockups for easy and quick artwork approval. It also helps to turn their ideas into beautiful 3D, to impress clients.
PW: You train Esko users across India, any trends you detect in the packaging industry? For example, how has the evolution of the supply chain (e.g. increase in e-commerce) affected packaging design, SKUs, packaging material choices, methods of printing and other components?
VR: I see a lot going on lately towards sustainable packaging solutions. Many developments have been seen in changing the design, material choices and printing methods of the SKU to ensure sustainable packaging is achieved. At Esko, we are constantly evolving our solution to keep up with market trends. Equinox, our fixed ink palette solution, enables customers to move towards sustainable packaging.
