At the Diamond Retailer Luncheon yesterday at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Comics showcased new prints from early Marvel Masterworks volumes, returning to the original files and artwork, in light of what people love. Scott Dunbier to IDW brought to the act of archiving and reprinting classic comics, as well as critiquing colorists such as Jose Villarubia, to remaster the line. In the spring of 2023, the original Marvel Masterworks volumes will have their artwork restored rather than the relatively crude procedures used at the time.
And they will keep the classic Marvel Masterworld cover treatments for the variant covers.
While also bringing Ant-Man And The Wasp and Kravel The Hunter to their Marvel-Verse all-ages focused reprint line alongside some upcoming movies that may increase demand for these characters…
Yesterday saw the return of the Diamond Retailer Lunch at San Diego Comic-Con, which we haven’t seen since 2019. I mean comic book retailers certainly had lunch during this time, but not at Diamond’s expense Comic Distributors and not in San Diego. During this time they also lost a number of publishers such as DC Comics and IDW, although Marvel is still very kindly. No sign of Dark Horse, Image, Dynamite though, as well as Marvel, it’s just AfterShock, Valiant and Boom Studios sponsoring this. It seems Bleeding Cool was the only press that showed up, along with Jimmy Leszczynski and his son, Jimmy Leszczynski. Let’s see what they all have to say…and you can read all about it by following the Bleeding Cool Diamond Retailer Lunch tag. Stay tuned!
